Rosehip regenerates and rejuvenates
A wild bush called “rosehip” grows wild in the Andes, a world region free of pollution. With botanical name Rosa Affinis Rubiginosa, rosehip has pink flowers and, when petals fall off, the plant develops oval reddish fruits.
Rose hip oil is obtained from the seeds. This oil has a high content of the polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) linoleic and linolenic acid (77%), which are responsible for the beneficial effects of this oil on skin regeneration. Apart from that, the pulpy skin of the fruits contains a lot of vitamin C.Rose hip oil has awoken deep interest in the area of dermatology, nutrition and cosmetics because of its use and applications, that range from regenerating damaged tissues, over postponing the apparition of skin lines due to premature aging, preventing wrinkle formation, to treating skin damaged by burns or radiotherapy.
PROPERTIES OF ROSEHIP OIL
The unique properties of rose hip oil were discovered through a research carried out by a research team of the Chemistry and Pharmacology Department at the University of Concepción in Chile.
The study based on the scarring properties of rosehip oil as observed in 180 patients that had surgical and burn scars and other conditions that caused premature skin aging. The findings were amazing. Continued application of rosehip oil helped attenuate scars and wrinkles and prevent premature aging. This first piece of research was the starting point of a lot of studies that have been performed in order to shed light on the properties of rosehip oil, both in Chile and in other countries. The use of this oil has spread in the fields of medicine and cosmetics.
The benefits of this oil for skin come from its high content of polyunsaturated essential fatty acids: linoleic (44-49%), and linolenic (28-34%). They are indispensable substances in body areas where cell renewal is taking place, as in the face. Apart from its effects on the superficial layer of skin, rosehip oil revitalizes inner skin layers, stimulates the activity of fibroblasts, cells that produce collagen and elastin, which are responsible for skin firmness and elasticity.
These are the regenerating and rejuvenating properties that have fascinated those who have had the privilege of using natural rosehip oil:
- It regenerates and nourishes skin, getting rid of superficial wrinkles and attenuating scars.
- It fights irregular pigmentation making it possible to eliminate skin spots.
- It performs preventive and corrective actions to photo-aging and skin problems from exposure to solar radiation through self-generation of melanin.
