Royal Jelly and Propolis for the change of seasons

What is Royal Jelly?

Royal Jelly is the only food of the queen bee during her whole life. Royal Jelly is a substance with high nutritional value, containing a unique combination of water (60-70%), proteins (9-18%), carbohydrates (11-23%), lipids (3-8%), amino acids, vitamins and minerals.

The amino acids present in Royal Jelly amount to 29, and of those, 10 are essential amino acids for the human body: arginine, histidine, isoleucine, leucine, lysine, methionine, phenylalanine, threonine, tryptophan and valine. 10-Hydroxy- 2-decenoic acid (10-HDA), is one of the most important lipids contained in Royal Jelly and is very useful in various organic processes.

Varieties of Royal Jelly

All varieties of Royal Jelly - pure, organic or liofilizada - must guarantee the properties of Royal Jelly and also that there is no industrial processing or additives.

Pure Royal Jelly is the variety extracted and treated directly from the hive; Bio Royal Jelly is the one grown in ecologically sustainable fields, where the bees collect the nectar; and Royal Jelly liofilizada is pure Royal Jelly where the water content has been removed.

What is Propolis?

Propolis is a natural mixture produced by bees and obtained from sprouts, buds and exudates of tree sap and other vegetable sources. The word propolis comes from the Greek: "pro" = in front, "polis" = city, since the function of propolis is to protect the colony, cementing the openings or small holes in the hive, thus protecting the bees from the outside.

Composition of propolis

Propolis consists of at least 300 compounds, including a high content of phenolic compounds (caffeic acid, cinnamic) and flavonoides (galangin, quercetin); it is one of the foods richest in flavonoids.

Natural supplements containing propolis are useful during the changes of season (arrival of autumn and winter).

When choosing a natural supplement with Propolis two factors are important: 1) a high content of flavonoides especially in galangin and; 2) high purificación that removes inactive substances such as wax.

The beehive is source of well-being and inspiration

The beehive is a source of well-being and inspiration, there is poetry influenced by its structure and way of working.

The history of bees and their products dates back to 13,000 BC. In ancient Egypt, there was a flourishing beekeeping industry, with a large area of land with plants and flowers. Honey was marketed for cosmetic and medicinal use. In ancient Greece beekeeping had a high status, with hives, smoking pots, honey extractors and many other beekeeping tools.

How does a beehive work?

A honeycomb is a rigid distribution made up of opposing hexagonal "cavities" that share faces with each other and the bottom. Beehives can contain up to 80,000 bees, and are made up of three castes: worker bees (being very numerous), drones (for fertilizing) and the queen bee.

The queen bee is the only sexually developed female and there is only one queen bee whose main purpose is to reproduce. A queen bee is fed only on Royal Jelly, lives an average of 3 to 5 years and lays up to 200,000 eggs per year during the first 2 to 3 years of life. The workers are responsible for almost all of the heavy work required in the hive: protection, building honeycombs, caring for the queen, storing, collecting nectar, pollen and water, chewing the nectar and transforming it into Royal Jelly and honey through enzymes, etc. The drones are the male specimens of the hive, they are the ones that fertilize the queen bee.
