Spike Lavender Essential Oil

What is spike lavender?

Spike Lavender is a shrub with a height that varies between 50-70cm, with gray, linear-lanceolate to spatulate leaves. The flowers branch out into a spike which is up to 25cm high, blue to lilac, and bloom in mid-July. This plant is a hybrid of English lavender (Lavandula angustifolia). The scent of Lavandula latifolia is stronger, more camphorated and more pungent than that of Lavandula angustifolia. For this reason, the two varieties are grown in separate fields.

Lavandula latifolia, known as broadleaved lavender, spike lavender or Portuguese lavender, is a flowering plant belonging to the family Lamiaceae, native to the western Mediterranean region from central Portugal to northern Italy (Liguria) through Spain and southern France. This grows in dry places and calcareous soils, with broad sun exposure.
