Tendons and Ligaments: What They Are and Their Functions
Both are a specialized type of Connective Tissue that is part of the musculoskeletal system.
The tendons are a fibrous or tendinous part, exclusively passive, located at the ends of the muscle mass and, fixed to the bones, they transmit contractile tension and smooth out its abrupt changes. The muscles are surrounded by sheaths or fascias of connective tissue (mainly type I collagen and elastin).
- The functions of tendons are:
