Cannabis Oil
Cannabis sativa (Hemp) is an annual herbaceous plant belonging to the family Cannabaceae; it is dioecious, meaning that there are “male” and “female” plants, so they depend on pollination for reproduction.
Hemp is native to western and central Asia, and is widely distributed today in the temperate and subtropical regions of the world.
The production of hemp derivatives is subject to very strict regulations and neither the seeds nor the oil extraction process contain significant quantities of psychotropic substances, making it perfect for a direct, safe consumption.
Origin of Hemp Oil
CONTINUE READING
Cannabis sativa is native to Asia and its use to produce fibres and make various textile products dates back to 4000 B.C., while its record of use in traditional herbology dates back to 2700 B.C. According to popular knowledge, various properties have been attributed to it since its use in Ayurvedic medicine, as a food and for industrial use.
The natural cycle of Hemp begins in spring with the germination of seeds. The stage of vegetative growth takes place in the middle of summer until plants begin to bloom. Flower development lasts for two to three months and, for most varieties, the optimum harvest occurs in early autumn.
Use of Hemp Oil
Hemp can also be used as a ‘superfood‘ because its seeds contain large amounts of Omega 3 and Omega 6. Oils and other products can also be made from seeds. The varieties considered for these purposes are THC-free.
Hemp seeds can be eaten raw, ground into a meal, as hemp milk (similar to soya bean milk) and prepared as tea.
Hemp oil can be used as a condiment in our regular diet. It is especially suitable for adding to salads, sauces, soups, pasta, rice, cereals or toasts as a substitute for butter or margarine.
It is important to note that hemp seed oil is not recommended for cooking (it should be taken or added raw) because at very high temperatures its properties are altered and the oil can oxidise.
