We are joining Earth Hour 2021
- With the symbolic turning off the lights on 27 March, MARNYS is joining this global movement against climate change.
MARNYS - Martínez Nieto, S.A, joins the environmental initiative 'Earth Hour' that promotes the non-profit organisation WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature) to raise awareness of the need to act for the climate and nature.
On Saturday 27 March between 20:30 and 21:30, the company will switch off the lights, illuminated signs and electronic devices in its headquarters in the Los Camachos industrial area of Cartagena.
With this symbolic act, MARNYS aims to raise awareness of the importance of taking measures to slow down global warming, reduce light pollution and be more efficient in energy consumption. The company will also join the campaign through its website, social networks and internal newsletter, to encourage employees, customers and partners to join this Earth Hour.
Energy efficiency policies
This action is part of the MARNYS Sustainable Development plan, which once again shows its commitment to the planet. The company has carried out many actions in terms of environmental policy, such as the reduction of up to 3 million kWh per year, reducing the consumption of Non-Renewable Primary Energy by 36% due, among other measures, to its self-consumption photovoltaic panel plant.

Earth Hour 2021, a more digital event
Under the slogan 'Connect with nature', this year Earth Hour is presented as a much more digital event than in previous editions. "2021 is a decisive year for Nature, and the climate crisis is a fact that needs to be acted upon now," the platform says. "Nature protects us, feeds us, and is our source of health," they remind us.
Earth Hour was born in Sydney in 2007 as a symbolic gesture, that of turning off the lights of buildings and monuments for one hour, to call attention to the problem of climate change. Over the years it has become a global movement with nearly 200 countries taking part, and in previous editions it has "switched off" more than 17,000 monuments and buildings as emblematic as the Eiffel Tower and the Colosseum in Rome.
