On the occasion of Book Day, MARNYS - Martínez Nieto S.A. has reactivated its support for 'The Book Pharmacy,' a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting reading among the most disadvantaged communities, and with which the dietary supplements company has been collaborating since 2022.
Thus, MARNYS organized a storytelling event that took place last Wednesday, April 17th at 'The Book Pharmacy' in the José Mª Lapuerta neighborhood in Cartagena. Lourdes López, responsible for CSR, along with several company employees, voluntarily came to tell stories and recite poems to the children. They also took the opportunity to announce a bookmark contest among users of 'The Book Pharmacy', which will be resolved on April 23rd, coinciding with Book Day.
According to data from the organization itself, more than a hundred young people visit 'The Book Pharmacy' facilities in José Mª Lapuerta and Lo Campano every year. In addition to the annual financial support, MARNYS has also donated books for children and adults, as well as other materials, with the aim of helping to ensure the viability of the social and educational activities they carry out.
"At MARNYS, we believe that access to books should be a fundamental right for all people, regardless of their socio-economic situation. That is why we are proud to support projects like this one that, in addition to promoting a love for reading, also contribute to reducing school failure and the social integration of the most disadvantaged communities," explains Lourdes López, CSR Manager at MARNYS.
This initiative is part of the MARNYS Community and MARNYS Talent programs within the Corporate Social Responsibility Plan of the company, and aligned with SDG 10 - Reduced Inequalities and SDG 4 - Quality Education of the 2030 Agenda.
'The Book Pharmacy MARNYS' Turns One and Celebrates with a Reading Chain among Employees
Likewise, at the MARNYS headquarters, located in the Los Camachos industrial estate, they foster a passion for reading among their employees and, since last year, they have their own "collaborative library".
'The Book Pharmacy MARNYS' was inaugurated on Book Day 2023 and is a book exchange point where employees who wish can contribute a book (new or used) that they have enjoyed or that has helped them at some point in their lives, and they can also share their experiences with other colleagues.
To commemorate the first anniversary of this initiative, they have launched a "Reading Chain" where they invite employees to give the gift of inspiration through a quote and a dedicated book to another colleague, who in turn continues the chain. A unique opportunity to get to know colleagues better and share the transformative power of reading.
