'Play Thinking with MARNYS' already has over 5,300 students from 31 schools

Eight new centers have joined this project by the MARNYS - Martínez Nieto S.A. laboratory and the Ajedrez Lapuerta Sports Club.
With the aim of bringing chess to classrooms throughout the Region of Murcia, it is already implemented in schools in Cartagena, La Unión, Los Alcázares, Fuente Álamo, and Águilas.

The project 'Play Thinking with MARNYS', promoted by the Cartagena-based laboratory of natural dietary supplements and cosmetics MARNYS - Martínez Nieto S.A, in collaboration with the Ajedrez Lapuerta Sports Club, already has 31 affiliated educational centers and over 5,300 participating students. Eight new schools have joined this initiative that was launched last year 2022 with the objective of bringing chess to classrooms and has the support of the Education Council of the City Council of Cartagena as well as the Department of Education of the Region of Murcia.

The president and founder of MARNYS - Martínez Nieto S.A., Mr. José Martínez Nieto, and the Councilor for Education, Employment, and Business of the City Council of Cartagena, Ms. María Irene Ruíz Roca, delivered the materials to the new participating schools, consisting of chessboards, pieces, and chess books, during an event held at the company's facilities.

Specifically, the new schools incorporated into the project are: Santiago Apóstol, from Miranda; Félix Rodríguez de la Fuente, from Los Nietos; José Antonio, from Fuente Álamo; Las Claras del Mar Menor, from Los Alcázares; Joaquín Tendero, from Águilas; and La Concepción, Santa Joaquina de Vedruna, and La Inmaculada, from Cartagena.

Thus, 'Play Thinking with MARNYS' is already implemented in numerous schools in Cartagena, La Unión, Los Alcázares, Fuente Álamo, and Águilas, with the aim of reaching not only all schools in Cartagena and the surrounding area but also extending to all schools in the Region of Murcia. The participating students are in grades ranging from 1st year of kindergarten to 6th year of primary school, including open classrooms for students with special needs.

Checkmate to School Failure with MARNYS

Within this project, which is mottoed 'Checkmate to School Failure', MARNYS provides the necessary materials for practicing chess, sponsors tournaments and competitions among students, and collaborates in organizing lectures for teachers and students given by qualified professionals.

The goal is for students to play while thinking and to promote the playful aspect of education, reducing levels of absenteeism, failure, and dropout rates.

'Play Thinking with MARNYS' is part of the MARNYS TALENT program of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), which encompasses the company's initiatives aimed at education, personal and professional development. It is aligned with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically SDG4 Quality Education, which promotes inclusive and equitable quality education, as well as lifelong learning opportunities for all.
