'Play Thinking with MARNYS' exceeds 7,000 students from 39 schools in the Region of Murcia

  • A total of 7,248 primary and infant students have already joined the program promoted by MARNYS - Martínez Nieto SA and the Lapuerta Chess Sports Club.
  • The main objective of this program is for students to play and think, promoting the playful aspect of education, reducing absenteeism, failure, and dropout rates.

The 'Play Thinking with MARNYS' program, promoted by the laboratory of food supplements and natural cosmetics MARNYS - Martínez Nieto SA, in collaboration with the Lapuerta Chess Sports Club, continues to attract students from all over the Region of Murcia, reaching 7,248 participants from a total of 39 infant and primary educational centers.

This project began almost two years ago with the support of the Ministry of Education of the Region of Murcia, as well as the Education Council of the City Council of Cartagena, with the aim of bringing chess as an educational tool to young children and promoting logical thinking, reasoning, and decision-making in a dynamic and fun environment.

The new affiliated schools are Virgen del Pasico and Pasico II in Torre Pacheco, Rey Juan Carlos I in La Union, Nuestra Sra. De la Encarnación in La Raya (Murcia), Juan Navarro García in La Hoya (Lorca), along with Virgen del Carmen and La Inmaculada - Franciscanos in Cartagena.

The delivery of the materials, including boards, chess pieces, and books, to the new centers took place on January 25th at the latter mentioned center, La Inmaculada - Franciscanos in Cartagena, by the president and founder of MARNYS - Martínez Nieto SA, Mr. José Martínez Nieto, as well as the CSR manager, Ms. Lourdes López Díaz.

'MARNYS Talent' wants to checkmate school failure

The project 'Play Thinking with MARNYS', born in 2022, has the slogan 'Checkmate to school failure' and is aimed at students from 1st year of nursery to 6th year of primary school, including open classrooms for students with special needs. Its objective is to introduce chess to young children with the purpose of playing and thinking, and promoting the playful aspect of education, with an impact on reducing absenteeism, failure, and dropout rates.

The initiative is part of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program 'MARNYS Talent', aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations 2030 Agenda, specifically with SDG4 Quality Education.

MARNYS - Martínez Nieto SA provides the necessary materials for chess practice, as well as guidance to teachers and students by qualified professionals, and collaboration in tournaments and competitions.
