MARNYS continues to support the work of 'La Botica del Libro'
- This year, the laboratory wanted to show its support for the facilities managed by the association in the Lo Campano neighbourhood in Cartagena.
Roberto Martínez, CEO of MARNYS - Martínez Nieto S.A., and Lourdes López, CSR manager, visited the premises of 'La Botica del Libro' in the Lo Campano neighbourhood of Cartagena in November.
Medicine for the soul
La Botica del Libro is a social project that was founded in 2004 in the Lo Campano neighbourhood in Cartagena to promote reading among the most disadvantaged individuals.
It was awarded the National Reading Promotion Award 2018 for its work in integration and education.
Its founders are Marina Campos, Isabel Gallego, and Ana Martínez, and they have the support of around 20 volunteers and several municipal departments, although any help is appreciated. La Botica del Libro has two locations, one in the José María Lapuerta neighbourhood and another in Lo Campano, where they welcome Roma families, children aged between 3 and 17, and many mothers who want to enjoy reading. They also have an internet classroom to adapt to the modern times and offer basic skills workshops to help them find employment.
Currently, La Botica del Libro in Lo Campano has a varied number of volunteers, but more hands are still needed. Perhaps the festive season is a good opportunity to give a little of ourselves to those in need of a change in their lives.
La Botica del Libro believes that books are medicine for the soul and a tool to fight social exclusion. They also believe that schools alone are not enough to promote reading habits and that small spaces are needed to encourage contact with books.
La Botica del Libro has been a refuge for over 15 years for those seeking a better life through reading.
Breathing life into a wonderful project
MARNYS - Martínez Nieto S.A. consistently co-funds the survival of the pharmacy and this year has once again provided financial support to guarantee the viability of the project and continue with the educational and social activities they carry out.
"Thanks to the extraordinary work of the volunteers who dedicate their time to helping children and young people at different educational stages, we are achieving that, despite the socio-economic difficulties of their environment, they can achieve their educational and professional goals. We are proud to contribute to this wonderful project", explains Lourdes López, CSR manager at MARNYS.
During the visit, in addition to making the donation, the need to rehabilitate the nursery, one of the oldest and most symbolic buildings in Lo Campano, was highlighted.
