MARNYS promotes access to reading by supporting 'La Botica del libro'
- The laboratory has made several donations for the continuity of this project that brings books, good habits and values to young people and adults from disadvantaged sectors of Cartagena.
Roberto Martínez, general manager of MARNYS - Martínez Nieto S.A., and Lourdes López, head of CSR, visited the premises of 'La Botica del libro' in the José Mª Lapuerta neighbourhood in Cartagena in March.
La Botica del libro is a non-profit project that helps young people and adults from disadvantaged neighbourhoods in Cartagena to get started and gain access to literature. In this way, it seeks to help reduce school failure and promote the social integration of these groups.
MARNYS - Martínez Nieto S.A. has supported this project with the donation of books for children and adults, materials for the maintenance of the activities of 'La Botica', as well as materials for protection against Covid-19. The company has also expressed its financial support to guarantee the viability of the project and to be able to continue with the educational and social activities they carry out. More than a hundred young people from the Barriada José Mª Lapuerta and Lo Campano are currently attending the project.
"They do magnificent educational and social work, helping numerous families, working to reduce school absenteeism and promoting good habits, especially reading. At the same time, they transmit values such as tolerance and respect", explains Lourdes López, head of CSR at MARNYS.
During the visit, in addition to handing over the materials, they learned about the history and activities of this association, which in 2018 won the National Prize for the Promotion of Reading.

The company's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) plan includes the 'MARNYS COMMUNITY' programme to promote equal opportunities and social and employment integration, as well as support for the most disadvantaged groups, education, and personal safety.
Aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), this MARNYS - Martínez Nieto S.A. programme seeks to improve dialogue with stakeholders in society in general and in the local community.
