‘MARNYS Planet’, protecting bees and the environment

Through this Corporate Social Responsibility program, MARNYS® - Martínez Nieto S.A. supports actions for ecosystem conservation.
The Spanish food supplements and natural cosmetics laboratory, which celebrates its 55th anniversary this year 2023, is one of the three main manufacturers of products based on royal jelly and propolis in the world.

In the context of World Bee Day, celebrated on May 20th as declared by the United Nations, the food supplements and natural cosmetics laboratory MARNYS^®- Martínez Nieto S.A. emphasizes the importance of strengthening the protection of bees as a key agent in balancing ecosystems.

Through our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program named ‘MARNYS Planet’, the company promotes the protection of these pollinating insects, as well as the environment in general, through environmental education and outreach actions. These values are aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) within the framework of Agenda 2030.

The company’s connection to bees has been present since its founding 55 years ago, being nowadays one of the three main manufacturers of products based on royal jelly and propolis in the world.

In the words of Roberto Martínez, CEO of MARNYS^® - Martínez Nieto S.A.: “Bee products are part of our history and evolution, and they are just a small sample of what these incredible creatures contribute to the planet. We are aware of our duty to care for and protect them, just as they care for our ecosystem and us”.

Sustainable apiculture, crucial for bees

Bees are responsible for the survival of 80% of the planet’s plant species and their existence depends largely on sustainable beekeeping, which is in decline due to factors such as climate change or industrial agriculture.

To promote their protection, MARNYS^® - Martínez Nieto S.A. collaborates with the Fundación Amigos de las Abejas (Friends of Bees Foundation) through actions such as environmental education projects, recovery of swarms or damaged ecosystems. The goal is to build a more aware society about the protection of bees and the environment in general.

Other ‘MARNYS Planet’ initiatives: emissions reduction and sustainable shipping

In addition to protecting bees, the company’s CSR department works on actions aimed at reducing the environmental impact generated by their business activity. Important measures have been implemented to reduce emissions, conserve water and energy, or recycle and reuse materials.

MARNYS^® - Martínez Nieto S.A.’s headquarters in Cartagena counts with one of the largest self-consumption photovoltaic plants in their region, as well as an Environmental Management System that applies continuous improvements in natural light utilization, air conditioning or insulation, measures that allowed them to achieve Class A Energy Efficiency Certification.

As Lourdes López, from MARNYS^® - Martínez Nieto S.A. Corporate Social Responsibility department explains: “we have also instituted a sustainable shipping plan, with reduced use of plastics, incorporation of recycled packaging materials, and carbon-neutral shipments by calculating the footprint generated by each shipment and offsetting it with United Nations certified environmental projects”.
