Earth Hour 2024

To raise awareness of the importance of caring for the environment and halting its decay, MARNYS – Martínez Nieto S.A., is participating in the global initiative ‘Earth Hour’ for the fourth consecutive year in 2024.

So, on 23rd March, from 20:30 to 21:30, as a symbol of global unity and support for the planet, the lights and electronic devices will be turned off for 60 minutes at their offices situated in Los Camachos Business Park, in Cartagena.

In addition, the company joins this edition’s theme: “Give an hour to the planet while doing something you like!”, aiming to encourage people to dedicate 60 minutes of their time to an activity related to the environment. Under the CSR programme ‘MARNYS Planet’, they have launched an artistic drawing initiative using natural and recycled materials among their workers.

At MARNYS, we act with a simple yet meaningful gesture, accompanying other actions we have been implementing for years with the aim to reduce our environmental footprint as a company” explains Lourdes López, from Corporate Social Responsibility Area at MARNYS. “The company's values are aligned with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Within our CSR plan, we have our ‘MARNYS Planet’ programme through which we carry out various actions for the reduction of emissions and energy consumption”.

MARNYS Planet: Global sustainable development and local environmental care

The ‘MARNYS Planet’ programme includes actions aimed at protecting the environment, promoting the production and consumption of clean energy, and reducing and offsetting pollutant emissions.

In this regard, MARNYS has managed to significantly reduce, year after year, energy consumption and CO2 emissions through such actions as the installation of one of the largest self-consumption photovoltaic plants in the Region of Murcia, as well as an Environmental Management System (EMS) that has allowed it to obtain a Class A Energy Efficiency Certificate.

Among other pro-environment measures is the implementation of its plan to reduce plastic and sustainable packaging and transport applied to all its shipments, as well as carbon neutral shipments launched in 2022 and applied to MARNYS orders to Spain and Portugal.

Switch off the light and give an hour to the planet.

The Earth Hour is a global movement that was born 18 years ago in Sydney, driven by the non-profit organization WWF (World Wide Fun for Nature), which aims to raise awareness about climate change and the importance of adopting sustainability and energy-saving measures. The current reality facing the planet is that 2023 has been the warmest year, with a global temperature increase close to the critical limit of 1.5ºC1.
