Dry hands? How to moisturize and care for them daily

Published: 30 March, 2020 - Updated: 5 January, 2024 | 5'

The hands are one of the parts of the body that are most exposed, along with the face, to external conditions and that, moreover, we use for practically any daily activity. However, we tend to forget to take care of them and not pay the necessary attention to them.

The skin of the hands is therefore constantly subjected to the action of external agents, exposure to the sun, the cold or everyday tasks such as the use of certain products. Other factors such as constantly washing your hands also affect their condition and can cause premature ageing of the skin with the appearance of wrinkles, spots or dryness.

MARNYS® offers natural alternatives to alcoholic solutions for the daily hygiene of your hands with Tea Tree essential oil, as well as for their care and hydration.

Tips to keep the skin on your hands in good condition

Following a series of routines or guidelines on a daily basis will help us improve the appearance of our hands and keep them well cared for, especially if they are very dry or cracked.

Moisturize your hands daily

Although it may seem obvious, we often forget to moisturize this part of the body. Normally we have at home our body moisturizer or oil, but it is advisable to use a specific one for the care of the hands and apply it daily. There are numerous hand creams or moisturizing oils to keep your hands moisturized. We will give you some suggestions later on. Remember that when applying moisturizing cream or oil you should always massage gently until it is completely absorbed.

If the skin on your hands is already very damaged, very dry, rough or cracked, you can apply plenty of moisturizing cream and cover your hands with gloves, preferably cotton, and sleep with them all night. In this way, you can take advantage of the hours when your exposure to external agents or continuous washing is reduced.

Protect your hands

Sometimes, either through haste or negligence, we forget to protect our hands with gloves during everyday actions such as the use of certain cleaning products. Similarly, the constant use of soaps and hydroalcoholic gels can also cause hands to become dehydrated and dry or cracked.

How should hands be washed properly?

Our hands touch countless objects throughout the day, so it is essential to maintain constant hygiene. As water and humidity are one of their greatest enemies, we must do this several times a day.

To do this, it is advisable to use a neutral soap and dry the hands completely, since if we leave them moist the skin can crack. Likewise, it is ideal to wash them with warm or lukewarm water, since hot or very cold water contributes to dehydration.

The World Health Organization provides guidelines for us to wash our hands properly. The process should take between 40 and 60 seconds to ensure effective cleaning. Thus, the correct procedure should be to carefully rub all parts of our hand with plenty of soap, including the back, palm and interlocking fingers, not forgetting the thumbs.

If you wash your hands with a disinfectant, you should also scrub your hands in a similar way to washing with soap and water, in this case for 20-30 seconds.

How to choose a disinfectant gel?

When adding extra products for deeper cleaning, it is important to note that not all products are suitable. The products or alcoholic solutions must contain more than 65% alcohol to achieve the disinfecting effect. However, there are also natural solutions as an alternative to products with alcohol.

Hydroalcoholic gel or homemade sanitizer

Due to the current shortage of hydroalcoholic gel, an alternative to complete the hygiene of your hands and nails at home can be a sanitizing preparation.

Deep hand cleansing can be performed using tea tree essential oil in conjunction with your regular hand gel or soap. Tea tree is commonly known for its antibacterial and fungicidal properties, so it is the ideal oil to complement hand cleaning.

How do I prepare a natural sanitizer at home?

Two very simple ways to make a preparation at home to complement your hand cleaning are as follows:

Moisturize your hands with natural products

As we see, in addition to maintaining proper hygiene, hand moisturizing is key to their care.

MARNYS® offers you a selection of natural hand-care products that will help you keep your skin moisturized and are COSMOS-certified for their natural ingredients.

Moisturizing with natural oils

To achieve intense moisturizing of our hands it is also possible to apply natural cosmetic oils such as Rosehip Oil, Argan Oil or Jojoba Oil.

Especially if our hands need extra moisturizing due to frequent hand washing or the use of hydroalcoholic gels, Rosehip will provide intense moisturizing and care for the skin on your hands and the rest of your body.

Among its properties, its capacity to regenerate, moisturize and restoreskin elasticity stands out. Also, rosehip oil is the right oil to improve the appearance of scars, stretch marks and wrinkles.

MARNYS® Organic Argan Oil provides the skin with a shine and softness. It is a 100% bio-certified oil and provides essential fatty acids to the skin, besides helping to reduce the signs of aging and restoring skin elasticity in dry and cracked hands. It also protects the skin from external attacks such as the sun or wind.

You can also achieve intense hydration with MARNYS® Jojoba Repair Oil. It is of 100% natural certified origin, and it nourishes and revitalizes the driest skins, protects them and prevents their premature aging, and does not leave any greasy residue.

In short, there are numerous options for the care of the skin of your hands. The important thing is to choose the one that best suits your needs and not to neglect your daily care routine.
